S/Y Obsession presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a truly turn key, classic yacht for years of continued enjoyment.

This beautiful yawl designed and built by Henry R. Hinckley in 1955 – hull no. 972, has been in the care of a very knowledgeable owner since 1989, who has spent the last 36 years upgrading and protecting this timeless gem. Truly an Obsession!

From the beginning when the owner found her in a boat yard, and having owned other wooden boats, he set about to make her into a vessel that would stand up to the rigors of offshore sailing. The boat was essentially completely rebuilt, to cold molded standards, here are the details in the seller's own words:

The hull's exterior was sand blasted, new boards added, everything refastened, frames laminated with epoxy, glued to the hull with epoxy, hull planks edge-to-edge glued with epoxy (the seams were reefed with a skill saw first), two layers of Cofab Comat (each layer is 18 oz. biaxial with 1.5 oz mat) applied over the exterior with epoxy, hull faired with epoxy, and the entire interior of the hull coated with 3 layers of epoxy to seal (you can see what that looks like in the anchor locker picture at the bow - grey pigment was added to the epoxy). The cast iron ballast was removed and glued on (mating surfaces, new keel bolts, etc.) with epoxy. A new rudder was glued together with epoxy and covered like the hull + new SS rudder post. She’s got 140 gallons of West System epoxy on her, 42 new laminated frames, a Universal diesel engine, aluminum spars (original dimensions as her spruce ones) and an added bowsprit to help overcome the 3,500 additional pounds all of those new screws, gallons of epoxy, bronze fittings, miles of electrical lines, etc. added. Other upgrades include AC, refrigeration, pressurized fresh & salt water, inverter, gimbaled microwave, radar, etc. 

S/Y Obsession  regularly competes in local regattas and has amassed a very impressive amount of silver over the years. She is optimized for sailing and performance in every way possible, and benefits from continual updates and new sails as needed.

S/V CLAIRVOYANT is a nicely kept single cabin version of the very popular Bob Perry designed Tashiba 36. The boat is very spacious and sea worthy.

This boats first owners had her from 1987-2000. From 1987-2017 the boat spent 6+ months a year indoors. The summers were spent weekend sailing on Lake Michigan. Starting in 2017 the owners took her to the keys where they would spend the winters cruising around and eventually trekking several time to the Bahamas. She was always thoughtfully stored on the hard and covered for the summer months during her time in Florida. In 2023 she was  brought to the Chesapeake and the owners cruised the Chesapeake for the 2024 season, and again, tucked away for the winter. For 2025 they have decided to sell her. She is currently in the water in Norfolk VA., without sails rigged and "stored" with de-humidifier running etc. Please contact us today for a private showing.

Construction:

The Tashiba 36 hull is made of hand-laminated, one-piece, heavy-duty fiberglass. A series of longitudinal and traverse stringers are used to provide maximum hull support. There is a one-piece internal iron cast ballast, bedded with fiberglass and polyester resin, glassed over to further reinforce the hull section. The Tashiba 36 also includes a hand-laminated FRB house and deck with end gran balsa sandwich construction. Where deck hardware is through-bolted, it is reinforced with encapsulated marine grade plywood using stainless steel backing plates.

Accommodations:

Clairvoyant presents an impressive interior arrangement with sleeping accommodations for up to 5 people. There is a large forward private cabin. The entire interior is satin varnished teak with high quality joinery work that is a trademark of the TaShing Ship Yard and their Yacht building capabilities. There are 13 bronze opening portlights with screens, as well as, the beautiful large butterfly hatch in the middle of the boat. THIS BOAT HAS HAD THE CAST IRON FUEL TANK REPLACED WITH A NEW 60GAL ALUMINUM TANK.

The Catalina 42 is an excellent cruising boat with a spacious interior and is a classic design from the Catalina brand. The 42 was designed with performance and comfort in mind so you can arrive quickly and comfortably. This Catalina is built with the wing keel and shoal-draft option, allowing for shallow-water cruising. Most recent improvements include bottom paint. New canvas and isinglass for the 2-year-old dodger, new seawater pump for the engine, and a rebuilt boomvang!

Welcome aboard S/V GLORY!  When Jeanneau came out with this design, they really hit it out of the park! The living space aboard is hard to rival. A 3 cabin layout, with the primary cabin forward featuring an on-suite head and true queen size center island berth. The galley is along the entire Port side of the vessel and has generous storage and large capacity refrigeration. Immediately on Starboard you'll find the Nav desk, with an excellent use of the beam of the vessel, to give you a true working Nav Desk. The teak interior aboard S/V GLORY is unmatched today, even in new boats, especially production boats. The large cockpit with twin wheels is fantastic for entering the vessel from the stern, the double gate doors at the transom are a breeze to just walk through, but once closed you feel more secure, and not at risk of an errant water bottle going out the back of the boat, like a lot of the modern production designs. The cockpit also features a very large table, and wrap around settees that allow for very comfortable lounging or watch standing while underway. A few features that set S/V GLORY apart from the pack, she has Harken electric 48 2-speed primary winches, a Harken electric 44 2-speed Halyard winch and a 24V Bow Thruster!

The vessel has only has 3 owner's since new. She was delivered in the Med to her first owner, who sailed her Transatlantic to the Islands and then the US. Her second owner had her in the Chesapeake Bay, with one trip to Maine in 2009 and a cruise to the USVI in 2010/2011. The current owner purchased her 4 years ago and also sailed locally in the Chesapeake Bay.
